MY BRAZEN BLOG “CRUSH”

I don’t usually enter contests. Not for any particular reason, really – it’s just not in my DNA to be lured into trying to “win” anything. I’ve never bought a lottery ticket (unless it was part of some charity), and I’ve never gone out of my way to put my name into a fishbowl (well, there was that one time when I was flirting with this Japanese Fighting Fish back in college, but I’m pretty sure there was some alcohol involved…).
But this one particular contest has piqued my interest, possibly because it’s really a very clever way to promote a good site. And I tend to like clever ideas.
The contest asks people to write a blurb about which bloggers they like most from the site “Brazen Careerist” – a well designed site that does a great job of bringing people together into a single community.
While I’ve enjoyed many bloggers there, my favorite my far is Elisa, from Ophelia’s Webb (http://www.opheliaswebb.com). Incidentally, Elisa is the creator of the Blog Crush contest – although I’m not naming her as my favorite in hopes of stacking the deck (winners are chosen randomly)! I’m actually choosing her as my favorite because I find myself turning to her blog as a refreshing break in my day. Typically, my hours are spent doing one of three things: thinking about marketing, reading about marketing or writing about marketing.
Well, I also manage to fit a few meals and quote a number of snacks in there somewhere. My waistline isn’t expanding on its own…
So once every few days, just when my brain feels like it’s ready to explode, I look for something that I can just enjoy, and not consider to be work-related. That’s when I’ll often find myself checking out some of Elisa’s posts. She has a keen insight into relationships and how they work, and I particularly enjoy her punchy, sarcastic writing style. She’s able to make her points and engage people in a conversation without being too heavy-handed about it. In other words, she takes her posts seriously but still injects a lot of fun into them! I look forward to reading more from her, and would encourage anyone who enjoys great writing and human insight to do the same.

MY BRAZEN BLOG “CRUSH”

Wow, so I write these posts all the time and have never experienced what it is like to be on the receiving end. As you know I’m an avid reader of Perspectives, so it is even more of an honor to be mentioned here!
What you wrote is so true, it’s easy to get caught up in the rigors of work and career that you forget to decompress your brain every now and again and return refreshed and better for the wear. A recent professional leadership/management assessment test actually asked how many fiction books/stories you had read in the past 12 months. Not sure I agree with the “fiction” part in particular, but I do agree that the freshest business ideas come from well rounded people.
Thanks so much for this post and for participating in the contest. I do hope you’ll become a regular on the Brazen site, you have so many great insights and ideas to share!
